The second Tynemouth Classic Volkswagon Rally will take place this month. etc’s Georga Spottiswood takes a look at what visitors can expect

A convoy of campers and classic cars are set to come to Tynemouth.
The Tynemouth Classic Volkswagon Rally will take place on July 28 and organisers are promising visitors this year’s show will be even bigger and better than last summer’s.
It is expected that more than 150 VW camper vans and classic ‘love bug’ Beetles
will take part in the day, which will be held in the Priors Haven and Spanish Battery car parks.
Jill Snailham, owner of Ruby and Frank boutique and lead event organiser on behalf of the Tynemouth Business Forum said: “We are delighted to be able to host the VW camper van and car rally again this year as it proved such a popular event for exhibitors and visitors last year.
“The whole day is very much in keeping with the laid back vibe that Tynemouth village is famous for and we are already eager to see the unique vehicles that will be rolling into Priors Haven.
“We have received interest from all over the UK as word has spread fast throughout the classic VW community what a fantastic location Tynemouth is.
“Last year we received lots of feedback from some of the more seasoned rally attendees about the perfect backdrop of the historic Priory and Haven Beach, which makes the Tynemouth Classic a key event on the VW enthusiast calendar.
“It should be a great day for both the exhibitors and people coming to see the vehicles as the whole village is once again getting behind the event with shops decorating windows with VW memorabilia and local school children helping to decorate the streets.”
The camper vans will be on show at both car parks throughout the day and will be supported by musical entertainment and food stalls.
The festival will end with an impressive convoy of campers and vintage cars travelling along the picture-postcard stretch of coastline from Tynemouth to Whitley Bay.
The Tynemouth Classic VW Rally has been supported by North Tyneside Council, Cooke and Co Estate Agents, Mister Woods, Barca Art Bar, Camperscape, Ruby and Frank, JPM Autobodies, Vibrant PR and Bluebird Customs.
